Cleaning your own roof is not a DIY house project that we recommend. While it may be tempting to take that power washer to the roof when you start to see a buildup of moss, algae, or dirt, we highly advise against it. This is because power washing strips the granules from asphalt shingles. This is extremely damaging because the granules protect the shingles from sunlight and storms. A power washer can also force water beneath the roof’s shingles. This causes mold and algae to form in areas that are not noticeable but potentially hazardous to your home. Power washing can take years off of your roof’s lifespan, and you’ll have to replace it much sooner than you had anticipated. As an added stress, the majority of composition roofs have exclusions in the manufacturer’s warranty for aggressive cleaning of the roof. So any costs accrued from this damage will be your price to pay. Don’t risk it! Call the experts at Knockout Roofing; we are always here to give an expert opinion about all things roofing!
